Review - 3 Idiots

It’s ironical how a movie with a name 3 Idiots can give such an intelligent message. A complete Indian Bollywood film with all the masala one would need, but as expected from a Raj Kumar Hirani film it has a message.
I have been a Raju Hirani fan since Munna Bhai MBBS but I guess it’s the 3rd Idiot which takes the cake. As far as direction goes I do not think he would have had any difficulties with actors like Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Shrman Joshi, Boman Irani etc. all of them are amazing actors and have proved it in past. I deliberately do not name Kareena Kapoor here because the role she did could have been pulled out by any other actress, so it is not really a big deal.
The camera work is amazing and so is the music. The songs are beautifully crafted and are at suitable places. The song Behti Hawa Saa Tha Wo and Give me some Sunshine are beautiful and reflect the thinking of today’s youth. The background score supports the story at every point and makes every shot look meaningful. The best part about the songs is that unlike most of the Bollywood films the songs are not unnecessary and forced. The story does move ahead with these songs, so they are a necessary part of the movie.
As far as acting is concerned I think it is by far Aamir Khan’s best performance (barring Andaz Apna Apna). It was a real task for him to look like a 20 year old. It’s not just the makeup and clothes and his accessories that make him look younger but his attitude, the way he carries himself the way he talks and questions makes him look like a college student. I just loved the way he looked lost and yet focused and ya the names used are hilarious. That’s what you call “out of the box ideas”.
Madhavan, Sharman and Boman have done a good job and have done justice to their roles. Kareena was good in what she does the best “Over Acting”.
The movie slips a little in the whole Mona Singh episode, which could have been better done. The whole examination paper scene is a copy from an advertisement but its crafted well so we can let go off the plagiarism.
Another good thing about the movie is the way movie moves forward, the way present and flashback is used is really good and does not confuse the viewer. A good screenplay (barring the Mona Singh episode) does a fair justice to the book.
All in all a good family film which will surely not make any affect on any parent, so do not take ur parents with an impression that they will come back and tell you to go become a photographer, that simply does not happen but ya its PAISA VASOOL…..
